Which PlayStation 3 should I get?

May be...
  • 20gb, 40gb, 60gb, or 80gb? I have a lot of PS2 games that I would still want to be able to play. Also, I know they don't make the 60gb anymore, but I don't think that would matter since I would most likely be buying from ebay or GameStop.
  • 1). 20GB has no chrome trim, no memory card reader and no wi-fi. Not manufactured anymore. Has the best backwards compatibility with PS2 games due to Emotion Engine (PS2's CPU) and Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU) installed.

    2). NTSC 60GB has the same backwards compatibility as 20GB version, also has memory card reader and wi-fi. Has a chrome trim. Not manufactured anymore.

    3). 80GB - extended memory, but reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games, it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 60-70% of PS2 games can be played. Available only in NTSC regions.

    4). 40GB - can't play PS2 games at all (all PS2 chips were removed), has 2 USBs instead of 4, no memory card reader, has wi-fi. Avalable in black and white colors. White is on sale only in Japan. Uses 65nm technology (lower power consumption). Improved cooling system. It's the latest version. 40GB doesn't support SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc).

    5). PAL 60GB - reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games. it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 60-70% of PS2 games can be played.

    Wi-fi included in all models, except 20GB.

    They are all based on Blu-ray. They all play PS1 games.
  • if it was me i would get the 80gb because the grafic's are really good and just all around the gameing is tight
  • Get more than a 40 gig cause u cant play ps2 games on 40 gigs or lower http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/Co...
  • If you want to play PS2 games you have to go above 40gb. You will probaly in the end have to get the 80gb. Also, I don't even thin they make a 20gb or 60gb. If you want to play PS2 games though, you have to get the 80gb. Good Luck on finding your system.
  • If you want to play PS2 games then you don't want the 40GB, it has no compatibility.

    If you need wireless, forget the 20GB.

    The 60GB and 20GB have better compatibility as they have the PS2 EE+GS chip internally. Most PS2 games will run

    The 80GB has only the GS chip internally, it emulates the EE in software resulting in a lower compatibility (about 80%) but most newer games run, and compatibility is improved with firmware releases.

    EE = Emotion Engine (CPU)

    GS = Graphics Synthesizer (GS)
  • The 60 gb. It has the emotion engine and the GPU from the PS2, so it can play almost all PS2 games.

    The 20 gb can also do that, but it doesn't have Wi-Fi or the 3 flash drives.

    The 40 gb can not and will not play PS2 games.

    If you can't find the 60 gb, then get the 80 gb Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle pack. It's still 500 bucks, but instead of getting Motorstorm, you get MGS4 and the Dual Shock 3 controller.
  • 60 gb it plays every game possible for ps1 and ps2. you can always upgrade the memory to 80 gb anytime you feel like it

    you can find 60 gb online at ebay,ubid, or amazon

    otherwise you can check gamestop for a refurbished 60 gb console
  • I would reccomend the 80GB model. The 20GB and 40GB models don't play PlayStation2 Games.

    Also with more space, you can put more multi-media on your PS3.

    Having an 80GB model my self It's an excellent investment.

    It's a great console, and some great games and Blu-ray movies. It's also the cheapest Blu-Ray player around.

    The 80GB model also comes with more USB ports.
