What is the difference between a normal 60 GB PS3 and a Premium one?

May be...
  • Look at this page, items 1 & 3

Its driving me nuts, since I plan on buying a 100% backwards compatible PS3

Don't worry, I promise that those who fail to answer will be disposed of in a humane manner.

    Carry on.
  • There is no difference.

When the PS3 was launched it was available in two configurations.

The "non-premium" version had a 20GB HDD, no wi-fi and no flash slots.

The "premium" version had a 60GB HDD, wifi, flash slots and a chrome trim
  • Nothing.

Premium may have been what Sony called the 60 gb version at launch (I don't remember). The 60gb had more features than the 20gb (40gb more HDD space, wifi, etc) so it would make sense that they call it that.

There is only one 60gb PS3, though, so they should all be identical.
  • Well I know that there are no such thing as a "premium" ps3.

I also know that amazon sometimes doubles certain items depending on the name the seller gives it.

Plus according to amazon it looks like the so-called "premium" version costs less.

So I'm sure they are the same thing.
  • As far as I know, there is no difference. The 60gb was only retailed for less than a year, so there was only one version. Some have just chosen to label it as premium because it is the most backwards comp. of any other SKU. 99% of ps1 and ps2 titles will work.
  • the premium one has 20 gb more space but it uses software to play ps2 games unlike the 60 gb that uses the the chip from the ps2
