I would say you are better off just keeping your ps2 and get a 40gb model Ps3
In other words, the 20gb, 60gb, or 80gb models. The only models in stock anymore are the 80gb models though. They play approximately 85%+ of all ps2 games. The 60gb model plays 99%+. I'm not sure offhand how many the 20gb model plays.
If you love to play ps2 games still I'd recommend going with the 60gb model, if you can find it on ebay or somewhere else. You might end up paying more for it than you would for a 80gb, so be prepared to shell out a lot of dough.
40GB no chip no emulation, no ps2 or ps1 support
60GB emotion engine full ps2 support
80GB emulation ps2 support not full but most ps2 titles
20 vs 60 is wi-fi and card readers
This is at least the basics on the differences
so if you want ps2 compatibility rule out the 40, the 60s sometimes have an overheat issue but not always.
