Can you play regular ps3 games on the ps2 system?

May be...
  • Not to sound cocky, but put it in perspective...

Why would Sony create the PS3 if the PS2 could run all of the new games?

And to correct an earlier answer... as far as I know, only the earlier versions of the PS3 are backward compatible. This is because a lot of people were buying PS3s for its BluRay abilities, but still buying PS2 games instead of PS3 games (because of minimal PS3 games back then).
