Do i have to buy a new control and memory card for the ps3?

May be...
  • Tomorrow im getting a ps3. I already have a ps2. Can i just use my old control and memory card for it?
  • The PS3 comes with a controller, and a Memory Card is NOT needed.

WOWBANGO is correct, the controllers are Bluetooth wireless (and SixAxis), and charge through the USB port only, so no, you can't use any previous PS2 or Playstation Controllers.

As far as the Memory Card, the PS3 is a computer, and stores information like a desktop computer, and depending on which GIG PS3 you get will determine how much "information" it will hold (you can switch out the Hard Disk Drive to a bigger drive, just like a computer). Also, make sure the PS3 you are getting is backward compatible with PS2 and Playstation games, cause not all are. You can create internal Memory Cards on the PS3. If you want to transfer data from your old physical Memory Cards, you will need to get an adapter to hook up to the PS3. Once you do that, the adapter and old Memory cards basically become useless, unless you want to use them as an extra back up.
  • No you cannot. The Ps3 uses bluetooth wireless controllers. It also does NOT use the old PS2 style memory cards, it has a built in Hard drive for saving your games. There are however adaptors out there that you can use to say, transfer information from an old memory card to your PS3.
  • No. The PS3 uses USB technoligy for the controllers. I have a couple of Wireless controllers, but they still have to get hooked up to the USB ports on the PS3 to be charged. There may be a unit that will convert your old controllers to a USB but by the time you spend that money you might as well get the PS3 controllers.
  • The PS3 already has it's own memory. And it comes with a controller. But no you can't use anything from your old system. I have tried. Also your old controller isn't a USB cord so you can't use it
  • The PS3 has a hard drive so you don't need a memory card. And it comes with a wireless bluetooth controllers. And no, ps2 controllers and memory cards won't work with the ps3
  • you can use the controller but not the memory card

you'll have to buy a new memory card
  • you can use the controllers and memory card but you have to buy an adapter for both of them
