Ps3 hard drive question?

May be...
  • how do you change the hard dive, its new so before i get started and start saving stuff i want to upgrade. does it cause any kind of problems with game saves or lag?

does it have to be unscrewed or what? I see there is a flap at the side saying for access to hdd. does it just pull out and the new one push in?

recommened a decent new hard drive too, I am using 60gb but I feel i should go to around 160gb? Or slightly less if there is one.

  • Purchase a 2.5" mobile hard drive of desired capacity.

Back up any data already stored on the PS3.

Turn off PS3 and unplug power cable.

Detach plastic cover on left side of unit by inserting a small flathead screwdriver into indentation and gently pry outward.

Remove the screw toward the middle bottom with a Phillips head screwdriver. Mine is a bit larger than the other visible screws and colored blue.

Use the protractable thin metal handle to slide drive to the right then remove the drive from the system.

Remove the small Phillips head screws from the sides of the drive harness then extract factory installed drive.

Replace it with the new hard drive and fasten it into the harness with the small screws. Then insert it into the PS3 and slide to the left with the little handle until it pops into place. You can then fasten it with the first screw you removed and replace the plastic cover.

Insert the power cable and turn the power on. You will be prompted to format the new hard drive. It will ask you if you are sure and just click yes until it begins the formatting process. Wait patiently during the formatting process. It may take several minutes.

Know that once formatted you have completed the process and you can utilize the greater storage capacity.
  • well i was thinking about doing the same thing you are and heres what i found

the ps3 is compatible with just about any 2.5 inch SATA notebook harddisk

1.back up ur data onto an external hardrive

2.you remove the hdd panel( it pops off)

    3. useing phillips head screw driver remove the blue screw

    4. open the metal latch, move the drive tray to the right, and slide out the drive

    5. remove the four screw that hold the hard drive to the tray, use a screw driver that fits snugly because the screw are extermly right and easy to strip

    6. switch the harddrives and put put the screws and hdd planel
