For screens smaller than 40 inches, the difference between 1080p and 720p is not discernible, so don't overspend on "Full HD" if the screen is smaller than 40 inches.
The PS3 turned on 24p output in one of the recent updates, which means it is compatible with the 120 Hz tvs. This is apparently a big deal to some movie buffs, b/c it means an even frame rate, but I really don't care about it.
In general, if you target a specific TV and wait for it to go on sale at one of the big stores, you should be able to get a good price. Just don't let them sucker you into overspending on cables (buy them online in advance) or power line doohickeys that you've never heard of - a surge protector is necessary - get one that can handle the cable, , but not a power conditioner.
I've been happy with a 40 inch Sony Bravia, and there are newer and better models out now.
remeber to use a hdmi cable with your ps3 and your tv
