Playstation 3 160 gb?
May be...
some1 told me that the 80 gb ps3 doesnt play ps2 games but the 160 gb ps3 does. is that true?no, it's not. actually, the opposite is true, depending on when you got the 80 gb. the earlier 80 gb PS3s did play PS2 games, but they have since moved away from backward compatibility (which was stupid to me as this was a huge selling point of the platform...made even more important by the fact that standalone blu-ray players are often under $200 now.)
edit: to the idiot that said that backwards compatibility to the PS2 was not a selling point...if it wasn't important, why would it have been integrated in the system? do you think that they added that feature just for fun? what about all of the people that have hundreds of PS2 games already? wouldn't it be nice to be able to play them on the same machine? wouldn't it be nice not to have two Playstations cramming your cabinet space? the PS2 was backwards compatible to the PS1, after all. next time keep your critiques to yourself.i got an 80gb ps3 for christmas, it doesnt play ps2 games, but plays ps1 games, i have a ps2, so it doesnt really matter. besides once u start playing the ps3 games u will never ever want to play anything else, trust they are AWESOME, especially in hd. also to the first guy to answer, your just making that part up about the backward capability it WASNT the selling point people didnt buY a ps3 so they could play ps2 games on it dumb ***, unless youre probably a retard like you are. buy a $400 ps3 instead of buying a $125 ps2, what an asshole. The part people wanted it for was because they wanted to PLAY THE GAMES FOR PS3 not for ****** ps2.NO, Sony has released only two new models as of August '08; 80GB and 160GB, both have exactly the same configuration, except for the hard disk size. Sony has removed completely PS2 compatibility on the new PS3s and there are no memory card slots, etc under the front deck. If you want PS2 compatibility you will have to look for an older PS3 model, like the 60GB which has hardware emulation or the old 80GB which has software emulation. Both of these are very hard to find in stores, as they have been sold out already, to welcome the new models. No 160 won't, or 80GB with 2 USB won't. You need the 80GB with 4 USB ports & memory card reader but they aren't in production anymore. I got mines in the MGS4 Bundle, and mines plays PS2 games
PSN: D-Rob92the new 80 and 160 gig models are the same system models as the 40 gig. they just have bigger hard drives. they system is not bc with ps2 games.
older 80 gig models with 4 usb ports will play ps2 games, because of the software they have. The 1st guy is right. Go to my source.12
