Question about memory cards on a ps2?

On a ps2. if you have lots of progress on a memory card and the cd for the game breaks. and you get a new cd of the same game and put it in the ps2, will you have the progress you had before it broke

the things you saved on the memory,are saved ,and it doesn't matter if you buy a new CD,Bcuz you still have the saved game.Load it and enjoy playing !

I would think so unless the memory got erased from the memory card, because unlike with nds or gba games the memory is on the memory card not on the game itself
