Do ps2 games work on ps3?

May be...
  • OKAY IVE HEARD YES/NO AND I WANT A RIGHT AWNSER WITH PROOF

    IM GETTING THE 80GB
  • That depends on the model. The 20GB, 60GB, and 80GB Metal Gear Solid Bundle plays at LEAST 85% of them. The 80GB that doesn't come with any game is the core model, which cannot play any PS2 games. The 80GB plays 85% of all PS2 games because it has the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) from the PS2 and uses software emulation. The 20GB and 60GB plays all PS2 games because it has the Emotion Engine chip from the PS2 instead of using software emulation, and, like the 80GB, has the GPU, but is discontinued, unlike the 80GB. So if you want to have a PS3 that can play all PS2 games, good luck finding it! Otherwise, get the 80GB.
  • OK look your are getting a brand new PS3 80gb from the store right,

if im correct then not the PS3 will not play ps2 games

    why?

because sony took out a emulation chip which allowed you to play ps2 games before on older models but took it out to reduce prices.

If you get a 160 gb ps3 it will be the same thing.

    Only the older 80gb (2007 - July 08) 60gb, and 20gb played ps2 games.

If you want to look for yourself click in the link below and scroll down to a chart.

it will show which ps3 will be able to play ps2 games but are not produced any more

  • For the 3,234,514,545,453,453,462,345,653,523,45... time, only Playstation models with 4 usb's are compatible with PS2 games...

    4 usb 80gb is not 100% compatible.

Other than the 4 usb models, PS3 is not compatible.
  • The 20GB 60GB and Old US 80GB play PS2 games this because the PS2 components are not installed in the other machines a easy way to tell is if the PS3 has 4 Usb ports if it has 2 then it doesn't
  • the newer versions are not compatible with the ps2 games
  • no no NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
