On the PS3, go to settings,change audio from bitstream to LPCM. This way, your PS3 will do the decoding of the HD Audio formats.

How to hook PS3 to my surround sound and HDTV?
May be...
my ps3 just came in earlier by mail and just got off work so i haven't opened the box yet. so how would i connect my ps3 to my onkyo receiver and my hdtv using hdmi?

is that the correct way with hdmi? Connect the PS3 to the Onkyo using DVD input. Connect the RCVR to the TV using HDMI OUT.
