Someone said 40gb PS3 cant play games?

Is this true? Im thinking of getting a used 40gb ps3 from game stop. They said the reason they discontinued them is because they couldnt play games. Is this true?

hahah no no it is not true. the reason sony discontinued the 40GB model is price. sony does not make any money off of console sales. they have to make up the money in advertising. so a couple years ago when the 40GB model was 400 bucks, everything was fine. but as time goes, prices must drop. now, the 80GB model is 400 bucks, so the 40GB model would have to be 300. this would make sony lose money instead of breaking even. so they discontinued the model and made the 80GB model. since adding extra storage doesnt cost a whole lot of money, they are still breaking even.

40gb can't play PS2 games.

Technically the 40gb wasn't "discontinued", the memory was doubled and quadrupled, hence the 80gb and 160gb, neither can play PS2 games. They took off the backwards compatibility (PS2 games) to lower the price of the PS3.

it didn't play games from the previous consoles such as playstation 2 games. that was the reason for discontinuing it. it will play all your favirite playstation 3 games!

Why would the company still make the system and have it on shelves if it didn't work? Duh.
