Question about ps3.??????

May be...
  • Is it true that when you connect it to nearby wi-fi servers the ps3 doesn't need a username or password, it just sucks bandwidth without anyone knowing???

If I buy a ps3(new 80gigs model) how do I perform a firmware upgrade??? Is it necessary to do that in order to start playing games, for example resident evil 5???
  • it depends.. if the network is secured, you would need the password or WEP key. If it's unsecured, then you're lucky.

No, firmware upgrade is separate from game software download. Maybe you can play the RE5 without downloading the update but you won't enjoy the other online PSN features like the latest one which is text chat and voice chat on the XMB during online gameplay.
  • NO. When I set up my WiFi access on my PS3 I had to type in the whole network key with the controller.... It was a pain in the butt. :-D

And the firmware upgrades are easy... Once you're connected to the net, the console itself will tell you when you need one and guide you through just like windows update and the like.
