There are 2 versions of the 80 gb PS3, so it depends on which version you're talking about.



There's the original 80 gb PS3 which came with either Motorstorm or Metal Gear Solid 4. That PS3 can play PS2 games. It also has 4 USB ports. It's also in a black box.



There's the current 80 gb PS3 which comes in a white box and has only 2 USB ports. This version cannot play PS2 games.



If you use the component or HDMI cables and you have a HD TV, then yes, the PS3 games will be in high definition. None of the PS3 will upscale normal non-HD PS2 games.
