Why Does My PS3 Overheat quickly?

everytime i turn my playstation 3 on, it only takes 5-6 minutes after it is turned on, then the fans go like crazy in it. the sound is annoying and i have my tv volume up REALLY high just so i can hear what i am playing. Is there something wrong with my system?

Where do you keep your PS3? It should not be in any enclosed space of any kind. If you've had it for a while, then there may be excessive amounts of dust in the vents. Use compressed air to blow any out. If you just got your PS3, I would return it; it is not supposed to overheat that quickly.



How's the weather in your area? If your room itself has a high temperature, it can potentially cause overheating issues since the PS3 is sucking in the hot air to aid in the cooling process. Keep your room at a comfortable room temperature.



The PS3 was specifically designed to NOT overheat. You should be able to use your PS3 nonstop for a week without problems provided the vents are clean and the PS3 has plenty of space to breathe.



Also, it shouldn't matter if the PS3 is vertical or horizontal unless one way restricts airflow to be sucked in or escape. Sony would not have designed the PS3 to stand a certain way otherwise.



DO NOT buy an intercooler or any sort of external fan that attatches to the PS3. These worthless devices often interfere in the PS3's cooling operations and are completely rubbish.

Have you had your PlayStation 3 for very long? If you have, the longer you play your system over a long period of time it eventually takes a toll on your PS3 to the point where the fans have to turn on sooner so the system does not overheat and damage the system internally. I suggest you buy a fan for your PS3 just to make sure that nothing gets damaged. When you hear the fan turning on it's not that the system is overheating, that would take a long period of time and having your PS3 be constantly running during that whole time period. It's just turning on to keep the wires and electronics cool while you are gaming. If it overheated your system would automatically turn itself off and cool down before being used again.



I recommend purchasing a fan for your PlayStation 3, it sounds like it has some use on it.

if its vertical tip it horizontally and it should not over heat

Maybe u should take long breaks in between ur gaming sessions. Don't turn off the PS3 for a few minutes then turn it back on. Take like a 2 hour break to let the PS3 completely cool off.
