  • I just bought a ps3 and have a 720p HDTV. Which connection is better HDMI or Component, and why? Please help.
  • HDMI cables support up to 1080p. Component cables support up to 1080i. Both support a digital signal, not just HDMI.

Both connections are the same for your 720p TV. The HDMI cable will give you Dolby Digital audio where as the component cables will only give you stereo sound (if you use the red and white component audio cables for sound). If you are using a different cable for sound (optical for example), then both cables will give you the exact same thing, with HDMI being more compact (one cable as opposed to the three for component).

HDMI is going to be your best bet as you will get the better audio through the cable without needing another cable. Component will give you the same video, but has more cables to deal with. I would go with the HDMI cable.
  • To answer your question... HDMI cable is better.

its better because its newer and it can handle a true high deff picture. component connectors are a hd signal but not a true one according to what ive read online component cand handle all the way up to 1080p as well. its just not as crisp of a pic. for your 720p eather would work. . its weird i know but if your really interested google it. both would work for you, but your better off getting a HDMI cable.
  • Well HDMI is much better if you have 1080p res.

But Component is good as well but not as good as HDMI.

Component though handles 720p (1080i) were as HDMI handles 1080p.
  • HDMI, as it sends a true digital signal. Now you dont need to spend a lot of money on the cables, as all HDMI cables do the exact same thing.
  • HDMI. component can only support 576i which is way worse than 720p. Most PS3 games have a max res of 720p anyway.
  • HDMI!
