Problem with playstation2 can anyone help me please?

May be...
  • Somebody who shall not be named stepped on it (grumble),

and now it will not play games that have any scratches on them, but it used to play them before that. When it is turned on now it makes a rubbing or humming noise.

I think that the lid is bent so that it is rubbing the disk, or maybe the part that turns the disk is slightly bent.

What do you think is wrong, and do you think I could fix it myself?

Or if I have to have it fixed, would it be cheaper just to get another one?
  • I would go ahead and buy a new one, this has happened to me twice, and both times I was unable to fix it myself. It's an issue with the system reading disks, the laser lens is damaged from whoever stepped on it.. unless you are an expert with that kind of stuff, just go with a new ps2.
  • if you can not buy a new console right now, what I would suggest and if ur good taking things apart and assembling them back, is to look for places online where you can buy broken PS2 to be used for parts. You may get one that has a good case and replace it.

With the price drop for the PS2 to $99.00 you may be looking to spend at least $40 -$60 for a broken PS2. It may be not be worth the hassle.

    Cheers.
  • It would probably be cheaper and easier just to buy a new one. Although i recommend buying a better console if you don't already have one. And don't keep trying to play the games if it is broke, because you might ruin your games.
