Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle for PS3 backward compatibility?

May be...
  • Hey is this version going to be compatible with PS1 and PS2 games?

    Thanks
  • The MGS4 PS3 bundle will have the same backwards compatibility as the current US 80gb. It will play PS1 games and most PS2 games (around 80% compatible) because it will still have the same 80gb PS3 that is in stores now (they stopped selling them so that they could release new bundles with a new game and dual shock 3s).

For a basic summary of the MGS storyline you can read here:

For some reason they are out of order, but just read solid, solid 2, and solid 3 (you can read the individual wikipedia articles for more details). The story is pretty complex so you may just want to play all the games. They are releasing all the old games together later this year, and they're all pretty kickass.

  • YES, it will have LIMITED backward compatibility. About 85% of the PS2 games out there you can play on the 80 gig including all Metal Gear games and other well known games.

If you never played Metal Gear, then your in for a wild ride. It almost impossible to explain the storyline in just one post, but I'd start with Metal Gear Solid. Then to 2, and 3.
  • From what I read, the MGS 80GB PS3 will have both a hardware and software capability for backwards compatibility. However, I also read that the bc will be limited to specific PS1 and PS2 games !
  • I just came across a site that sends you a Playstation 3 for free! I'm ordering mine right now.
