Can the Playstation Eye for the PS3 be used with the computer?...

right now only the original eye toy for the ps2 can be used this way. if you read down to # 4 on the directions on mark s's link you will see that they are talking about the ps2 eye toy-NOT the ps3 playstation eye. the playstation eye was made specifically for the ps3, not for the pc, and can not be used on a pc.
