Hey friend i wanted to know if ps2 games as well as ps2 buzz games work in ps3. which one best-40 60 or 80gb?

May be...
  • some say that ps2 games work with the 60 and 80 gb models.i want to know that dont they work for 40 gb model. please guide.
  • Ok only the 60gb and 80gb models have backwards compatibility, meaning they run ps2 games. But the 40gb does not have that so therefore it wont work. I used to have the 40gb model and it crashed on me so with insurance i got 80gb and it works just fine.
  • i found a sony link the other day. it depends on the game. they are not showing anything for the 40GB. according to the folks i spoke to at my game store, u have to get the 60 or 80 for this compatibility and i am told u should do it soon before they release a new version of these models that doesn't have it.

(reasoning behind this: since its release, the xbox360 dropped price bc it's hd-dvd player is worthless after all that happened in the last six months, every retailer dropping support and backing sony's blu-ray instead. now microsoft and sony are in a price battle for their game systems and sony is trying to figure out how to drop the ps3's price. new registered owners of ps3 are currently being subjected to a survey which if u take it, u will notice confirms this scenario)

anyway the compatibility page i found at sony is listed below in sources
  • Each model has a different level of backwards compatibility.

    40GB - None whatsoever.

80GB - Some games work, some don't. There's a website where you can search for games and check their status.

    60GB - Full backwards compatibility.
  • ONLY IN THE 60 & 80 GB PS 3 WILL SOME GAME WILL WORK IN THE BOTH SYSTEM. THAT WHY I AM SAVING TO BUY THE 80 GB HARD PS3. YOU CAN'T PLAY PS2 IN A 40GB.
