Ps3 contoller question!!?

May be...
  • wat kind of controller does a 40gb ps3 come with

    wired or wireless?

    ALSO, will ps2 controllers work on ps3?

    ALSO, wat is the difference between a ps2 controller and a ps3 controller?
  • Good question

    Well all ps3 20, 40, 60 and 80 gb models comes with a ps3 controller. (der) =P. Well they are all wireless and are called sixaxis controllers. Not only are they wireless, but they use a technology called bluetooth! You might have bluetooth in your cellphone, what it basically does is it sends out a radio signal which makes it a bigger range. Normally controllers such as a wii use infrared, which is bad because if somebody walks in front of the controller the signal will be blocked and it will not sense your motion. So the ps3 has bluetooth (which is indeed a form of wireless.)

    You might be wondering what is sixaxis? Well, it is basically a controller with tilt sensing, Many games use this function, one is motorstorm. You can drive by tilting the controller side to side and up and down. It is preety hard, but just a little feature sony threw into the ps3 =D. It is preety cool though because in some shooting games you can tilt your controller and your character will melee the enemy with the butt of your gun =P.

    Yes the ps2 controllers will work with the ps3... but there are two downsides to it.

    1) You have to buy an adapter for $152

    2) If you are going to use different controllers such as guitar hero controllers you will not be able to use hammer ons, pull offs, and the tilt sensor

    The main differences that there are between the ps3 and the ps2 controllers are:

    The ps2 controller has an analog button. When you look at the ps3 you will see a giant playstation button. If you press it you can turn off the system or go back to the home screen

    The ps2 buttons have L2 and R2 buttons, well the ps3 has them too but the ps3 has a trigger style. Many racing games on the ps3 use these buttons to accelerate because it lets you controller your acceleration better.

    The ps3 controller has sixaxis (tilt function) ps2 does not

    ps2 controller DOES HAVE vibration the ps3 controller DOES NOT. But you can fix this if you buy a ps3 dualshock 3 controller which is the same sixaxis controller with vibration.

    NOTE: The dualshock 3 does not come with the 40gb package.

    And thats about it. I am pretty sure that you have a ps2 so i really do reccomend the ps3 80 gb model for just 100 bucks more you get:

    80 gb ps3 (thats twice the memory of 40gb)

    metal gear solid 4 (valueled $60)

    And backwards compatibility so you can play your ps2 games. REMEMBER the 40 gb does not play ps2 games.

    Thats a pretty good deal for just $100 more

    Sorry i wrote a lot i just wanted to answer your question in detail

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~...
    EDIT: Sorry i also forgot to add that the 80 gb model comes with a dualshock 3 controller (which is the vibrating sixaxis controller) it also comes with 4 usb ports, also memory card readers so you can look at all your photos from your digital camera
  • 1. 2 wireless(mine came in a bundle with other stuff so it may actually only be one) but to charge they have to be plugged and thus they become wired
    2. There may be an adapter but honestly it wouldn't be worth the trouble
    3. There are no wires on the ps3 controller there is a "PS" button in the middle of a ps3 controller. The R2 and L2 buttons are the same size but they are triggers not buttons. PS3 is slightly lighter. Sixaxis support(motion sensing). If you get the Dualshock3 you have rumble but only the most recently made ps3s come with dualshock 3s most old ones come with a Sixaxis that has all of the above except rumble support) You can buy the Dual shock 3 and it will work fine with any ps3 it just may not come with your ps3.
  • 1. The 40gb will come with a wireless SIXAXIS (you can move this controller around like a wii, but looks exactly the same as a PS2 controller) controller. However, this SIXAXIS will not viabrate. So you will have an option to purchase another PS3 controller, called the SIXAXIS DUALSHOCK 3, which motion senses and viabrates, plus its heavier...like 360's controller.
    2. No, because the PS3 has USB slots for charging the PS3 controller...no PS2 slots. However some shops carry around a PS2 to PS3 controller adaptor.
    3. a PS2 controller has that "analog" button, while the PS3 has a "home" button. Which takes place instead of the analog button. this "home" button can turn on/off the PS3, quit games, turn on/off controllers, access the XMB (theres going to be an update 2.40 that will access the in-game XMB)
    And the L2 and R2 buttons. The PS2 ones just click, but the PS3 ones are like triggers.
  • ps3 sixaxis control will come with the ps3
    no, the ps2 controller will not work for the ps3 because it has no slots
    and the difference between a ps2 and ps3 controller is that the ps2 control is heavy and its reaction is slow and its wired, on the other hand, ps3 sixaxis controll is motion sensetive so that when the move the control about, the game will follow your movements, and its very ultra light, wireless and ultra fast reaction
