PS3 loud fan.... is it just summer?

May be...
  • The PS3's fan will start to spin really fast when reading a game at high speeds or if the area around the console starts getting warmer than usual. The fan will run faster whenever the console is warmer to keep the inside as cool as possible.
  • The PS3 runs extremely quiet, especially compared the Xbox 360. When the fan kicks it, it does sound louder than normal, but that should only be for a short period of time. Is your PS3 confined in any way where airflow would be restricted? I would check that just in case, because the fan should not run all of the time.
  • Yeah, the hot summers get the PS3 hotter than normal. Hopefully you can play in a room with A/C, but if not don't worry it shouldn't be that harmful to your console. Just don't play for too long...you know take breaks once in a while to let your console cool off and not get too overheated.

Maybe investing in an intercooler might help with increasing the lifespan of your PS3. Just a suggestion.
  • yeah, mine does the same thing during the summer. It just runs hotter because the room temperature is hotter, nothing to worry about if it still seems to function normally, although the fan does get kinda annoying! haha
  • actually the ps3 fan is almost pretty hard to notice
