Will sony make a 40 gig ps3 that plays ps2 games?

May be...
  • Just super pissed that the 40gig ps3 doesnt play ps2 games, just wondering if they will ever make a 40gig ps3 that does play ps2 games
  • Doubt it because Sony said that there's going to be so many PS3 games out in the future that people just aren't going to have enough time to play with their PS2 games.

The 40 gb is selling much better than the 80 gb and that's due to the low price. When the 360 and Wii start getting cheaper and cheaper, Sony really can't afford to take on the additional costs of including the PS2's emotion engine and/or GPU and still make the 40 gb PS3 competitive.

There's a possibility that Sony will include PS2 games on the PSN, so then technically, you can play pS2 games on the 40 gb, but the catch is that you'll have to pay to download the games.
  • NO, Sony wont make the 40GB PS3 backwards compatible becacuse taking out the PS2 compatibility is what made the 40GB PS3 cheaper to manufacture, and therefore Sony could sell the 40GB PS3 cheaper.

If Sony made the 40GB PS3 backwards compatible, it would increase in price by at least $50 dollars.
  • I sure hope so, the only one they sell in my country (New Zealand) is the 40GB. But I highly doubt it, I'd sooner bet on a new version with backwards compatibility
  • i doubt it
