If i buy a router will i pick up wifi for ps network recommend?

May be...
  • ok well i have a ps3 80gb and would like to use playstation network but listen i use my neighbors wifi internet but its very close to my neighbors house....if i was in the back of the house it doesnt pick up so i need to know how to use his wifi and if i buy a router will it work and what router would you recommend
  • i dont think you understand how a wireless router works.... a wireless router needs to be connected to a internet cable box or DSL box or whatever and then it takes that connection and turns it into wi-fi signals..... so you can't just buy a router and expect that you will pick up your neighbors signal better.....

what you can do though is enable the ps3s wi-fi capabilities like a laptop so you can continue mooching off of him....

    1. turn on ps3

    2. in the PS menu go to settings then network settings

    3. after selecting that change your connection type to wireless

    4. and then follow the online instructions until you get to scan then you probably will be able to detect your neighbors connection.... then connect to it

    hope this helped you out!:D

don't forget to pick a best answer!
  • My recommendation based on the fact I live in a fairly large multi story house - I use the Lynksys WRT54G wireless router and it works flawlessly. 60 dollars or less at most retailers that sell computer accessories. Enable the wireless with a WEP type security and your "other" neighbors won't steal your bandwidth. My router is approximately 60 - 70 feet away, upstairs and in another room. PS3 sees a 100% strength signal no problem. Ya, and WRT54G is not a WIFI source only a router for an exisiting internet connection.
  • I would definatley buy a router but i'm not gonna give you a recomendation for a router because it depends what you need like first go to best buy is what I would recomend make sure to tell a geek squad agent like how big your house is where your ps3 is gonna be and tell him where the router is gonna go tell him what other computers are going to be using the wi fi and then he'll be able to hook you up with the best possible router for you.
