If a buy a PlayStation 3 in the United States will it work in Australia?

May be...
  • Im moving to Australia in a couple of months wondering if a buy a ps3 in the US will it work in australia
  • On a gaming standpoint you can play PS3 games from Australia on an American PS3 but you can't play Australian PS2/PS1 games on an American PS3 as they are region locked where PS3 games aren't. Also you would not be able to play DVD's from Australia and some Blu-Ray movies that are region-locked though not all of them are. The only other thing then would be you would need an Australian power cable from a PC so you would have the proper plug for an electrical outlet, but nothing else is required as the PS3 built in power supply is designed to accept different voltage ratings so it can be played anywhere in the world.
  • You will need a good, 400W-500W power converter. If you plan to run it on standard TV - make sure TV supports NTSC signal. Most (not all) PS3 games are region free. You won't be able to play non-US movies and PS2 games.
  • no. the voltage is different and you'll have to change the plugs. better to wait to buy one in aus.
  • this site will give you a playstation 3 just for completing some quick online tasks! really recommend it, especially if you're broke but really want a ps3 (like me).
