PSP custom firware problem?

May be...
  • I just got my slim PSP a few days ago and it was clean and factory set. It is currently 3.9 and I have no idea how to install the custom firmware. I made the folder PSP/GAME/UPDATE/ then the two files that you needed in there and when I turned on my PSP to install it, the normal "Playstation Portable" white screen comes out but then it says "the game could not be started. (80020148)."

Do I have to get the pandoras battery to play games without the UMD? Do I have to downgrade the custom firmware and then install the newer ones one by one?

    please help me!
  • I haven't been on the modding scene for a couple of months but last i new in February ( last time i modded a slim) you need a friend with a modded psp to make you a pandoras battery for you but it has to the the kind for the psp slim if you use the regular kind you'll brick it. Then you use the battery to downgrade and upgrade with custom firmware back up ( there will be an option on the menu that will allow you to do this.) You can't do this your self because you don't have custom firmware therefore your psp can't run homebrew applications. If your friend has problems making the pandora tell them to try typing in Pandora Battery Slim Gui and they should find the help they need. If your friend can't make it or you don't have a friend with a modded psp find one on ebay by searching PSP Slim Pandora's Battery and Magic Memory Stick. Oh yeah and last time i checked only use first party original psp batteries to make the Pandora's Battery because you'll mess up a slim battery trying to do it.

P.S. There is a hard mod for making a pandora's battery but that involves a sodering (sp?) iron and a phat battery but i don't recommend it.
