2). NTSC 60GB has the same backwards compatibility as 20GB version, also has memory card reader and wi-fi. Has a chrome trim. Not manufactured anymore.
3). 80GB - extended memory, but reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games, it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 60-70% of PS2 games can be played. Available only in NTSC regions.
4). 40GB - can't play PS2 games at all (all PS2 chips were removed), has 2 USBs instead of 4, no memory card reader, has wi-fi. Avalable in black, silver and white colors. White and silver versions are on sale only in Japan. Uses 65nm technology (lower power consumption, other versions use 90nm). Improved cooling system. It's the latest version. 40GB doesn't support SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc). Has no chrome trim. Added self-cleaning function.
5). PAL 60GB - reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games. it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 60-70% of PS2 games can be played.
Wi-fi included in all models, except 20GB.
They are all based on Blu-ray. They all play PS1 games. Apart from the differences listed above - they are the same.
If you can someone get your hand on the 60 gb version, that's the version to get because it can play PS2 games. It has the PS2's emotion engine as well as the PS2's GPU, so it can play almost all PS2 games without any major problems.
The 20 gb is a joke. It does't have Wi-Fi out of the box. It doesn't have any flash drives. But the good thing about it is that it has 4 USB ports. It also has the PS2's emotion engine and GPU, so it's great for PS2 backward compatibility.
If you're looking for a collector's item, then go to Konami's site and get the 40 gb limited edition gun gray PS3. It's 600 bucks, but there are very few of them made.
The 80GB PS3 is currently in short supply, mainly because Sony is putting them into bundles with MGS4 and the new DualShock3 controller. The 80GB PS3 only has one of the PS2's processors, while the other processor is emulated with a piece of software. This PS3 can play a lot of PS2 games, but not nearly well as the 20/60GB PS3s could.
The 40GB PS3 is currently in ample supply at stores. It contains neither PS2 processor, nor does it have the software emulator so it can't play any PS2 games what so ever.
If PS2 games don't matter to you, get the 40GB PS3. Otherwise get the 80GB PS3 or the MGS4 bundle.
Don't worry about the hard drive size itself. You can easily replace the PS3's internal hard drive with any 2.5" laptop SATA drive. Check the manual for directions.
The 20GB is garbage and the 60GB is good but is selling for more than a new 80GB. The only difference is that the 60GB can play a few more PS2 titles due to the emotion chip.
It's the best i think
So you should get it too
