Question about PS2 and PS3 game compatability.?

May be...
  • I have a Playstation 2.

if I buy a Playstation 3 game will it work in the PS2?

    Please help.
  • no but if u have a ps3 a ps2 and ps1 games work with it
  • All PS3's can play PS1 games. But for PS2 games, it depends on which version of the PS3 you have:

20gb(discontinued) it can play all PS2 games, but it's a piece of crap compared to the others

40gb(still selling) It can't play any PS2 games, but there are rumors that in October there will be a patch that allows it to

60gb(discontinued) It can play all PS2 games, definately the best version of all PS3's. But it was too costly for Sony, so they don't make it anymore

80gb(Still selling, but hard to find) It can play most PS2 games. The ones it can't play are probably just the old ones that nobody has, like some that came out with PS2's release. You're going to want to get this one
  • DVD is not backwards compatible with Blu-ray, therefore, PS3 can only play PS3 games, PS2 games, and PS One games, while PS2 just plays PS2 games and PS1 games. why get a PS3 if you could play PS3 games on a PS2. THINK!
  • It seems you have no commom sense whatsoever. PS2. PS3. 2 and 3. Why would something for 3 work on 2?

That really is like saying can you play DVDs in a VCR.
  • No. If that was the case, why not call the PS3 game a PS2 game?
  • That's like asking if a VHS tape will work on your DVD player.

In this case, if a blu-ray disc will run on dvd player.
  • no lol u have to buy a PS3 to play PS3 games
