Depends on where you bought the system from. PS3 is region free for BD games and movies. But its region coded for DVDs. So if you have bought ur PS3 from a NTSC region (US), it wont be able to play dvds from other regions (Europe, APAC, etc).

what country are you in? American Standard for broadcasting is NTSC, just about everywhere else, it is PAL. So if the TV is NTSC and the PS3 is PAL, or vice versa, it's not going to work without some sort of conversion.
