What to do with a fake memory stick?

I recently purchased a memory off a website. a 8gb memory stick. but when i put it in my psp, 0kb comes up instead of the actually size. it workd properly on a on-off basis. i've read that some fake memory sticks work after using a formatting program downloaded online. does anyone know about this program or should i give up hope and return this memory stick back to hong kong? need help!
