Question about PS3 and HDMI-Please read?

May be...
  • My HD TV has a max resolution of 720p.

My TV has component and HDMI inputs.

I know that the PS3 has a max resolution of 1080P and is compatible with the HDMI cord. If I connect my PS3 to my tv with an HDMI cord, will the picture show up? Or will it not show because the input signal is too high of resolution for my tv to take. OR will my Tv still display in 720p even with the HDMI cable?

ALSO which A/V cord(s) come with this model of the core PS3?

Most accurate answer gets 10 points.
  • Since most televisions still in use almost always have composite connections (the yellow, red, white plugs), Sony figured they'd package those in with the PS3.

HDMI cables are still rather expensive (if you shop at your local department store, most high quality ones are about $30 USD.) and Component connections would most likely confuse people. I believe Sony is trying to also get a bit more bang for their buck by having you purchase the cables separately, rather than include them.

Anyway, to answer your original question, HDMI will automatically be detected by your PS3 when you turn it on. HDMI also will automatically select the output resolutions your television can properly display. This means, that you will not be stuck with a format you can't use.

If you accidentally do select the wrong setting, and you can't get it back to the way it was, turn off your PS3, then turn it back on and continue holding your finger on the power icon until you hear another beep (aside from the first power-on beep). This will reset only your display settings to their defaults. The process takes a brief moment, so don't panic if you don't see anything for a few seconds.
  • All PS3 comes with the composite cables (yellow, red, white).

Yes, HDMI will display 720p pictures.
  • I'm not sure whether or not it would work.

You may need to program your ps3 to normal tv(hold the on button for at least 30 seconds) and then use your HDMI cable. But i would think it would work
  • Yes it would work on your 720 p TV HDMI is the best cable for high definition

    Component is the 2nd best

never use a av cord on a high definition display or u will think ps3 is crap ( i think its the best console )

and the same av cord you get for the ps2 model but the style of the red white and yellow bit is different

I use a HDMI cord on my 1080p display

my friend has a 720p and a 1080i compatible tv 720p he uses and it works

after u plugged it in put th ps3 on and leave your finger on the power button and u will set it on to hdmi click yes etc.

nd the person at the top says 30 secs not really 30 secs
