Can a Playstation 3 play ps2 games? ?

May be...
  • I'd really like to get a ps3 for my family for Christmas but I'm just wondering if it will also play the ps2 games we already have.
  • None of the new ones in stores have BC. If you're that concerned about BC, then just keep your PS2. Besides, once you start playing PS3 games, it's pretty hard to go back to PS2 games.

EDIT: If you are looking for Backwards compatibility(meaning it will play PS2 games, you're right there), then look for the: 20GB, 60GB or OLD 80GB models.
  • backward compatibility for the PS3 is as follows:

20GB (no longer in production) - yes

60GB (no longer in production) - yes

80GB with 4 USB slots (no longer in production) - yes

40GB (no longer in production) - NO

    80GB with 2 USB slots - NO

    160GB - NO

any other up coming PS3's - NO

    all PS3's play PS1 games.

and there is no such thing as a 120GB PS3. that's Xbox 360.
  • yes, but only the 60 GB PS3's and only the 120GBs can play playstation games. But Sony is making one that can play both.
  • No PS3's that are currently being made will be backwards compatible. So no. You'd have to buy a certain used one.
