Play PS2 Games On 80GB PS3?

May be...
  • Can anybody tell me a way i can play ps2 games on my 80gb ps3 ... I miss my old games . Don't wanna get a 60 gb ethier . HELP
  • Well depends to you have a launch ps3? If so you can just pop in the old ps2 games and they will play. But if you got your ps3 recently say 6months to a year i think they took away the backwards compatibility.. Sorry dude...

There is a rumor going around that say they plan on brining it back but dont know when!
  • If you're PlayStation 3 80gb system only has 2 USB ports on the front, and no door on the front that flips up to reveal card readers, then your PlayStation 3 is never going to play PS2 games because it lacks the PS2 Emotion Engine processor and the PS2 graphics processor, both of which you can't add to your console so it will play PS2 games. There is no mod or trick to get PS2 games to play on consoles like this, you-re simply out of luck. If it's a 80gb console with 4 USB ports on it and card readers, simply put the game in and it should play fine. If PS2 games are something you really want to play, just get a PS2 pre-owned or one new, a new one only costs just over $100-130 and pre-owned models are available for well below $100.
  • check the serial numbers on the back, the only ps3's that will play ps2 games are the CECHE01 and the CECHA01 (one is the 80gb and the other the 60gb) i forget which is which but i do know that they are the only serial numbers known to be backwards compatible.
  • just buy a pre-owned 1. It will cost only $50. A b/c PS3 costs $100 more than a non-b/c PS3. So, it makes sense just to buy a stand alone pre-owned PS2.
  • just put them inside and it should work on the 80gb
