and why?

On a console, it has to be COD4. So many people have played and are currently playing the game. I remember when I first got the game, the networks were so jammed I couldn't even play for more than 5 min cause the servers kept on going down.

Halo franchise started online multiplayer but it didn't revolutionized it in any way. Already PC games like Counterstrike had the feature and Halo just took them and ported them to a console. Even COD4 doesn't necessarily revolutionize online gaming but people love it cause you can play a great game without any lag and lets face it it's FUN.

I would say that it wasn't COD4 (don't misunderstand me, it's a great game). In the beginning there was a Counter-Strike. This game gave a basic principles for online FPS shooters. COD4 is an improvement of those principles. Same goes to Halo.

call of duty 4 because of its online system ranking no other game had it as good as it and halo 2 in paticular was just revolutionizing playing online more and i think the upcoming M.A.G will revolutionize multiplayer only games

Halo 2 was the first real implementation of online multiplayer in a console videogame.
