Do you really need a charger for the controller for the PS3 (Playstation 3)?

i was on gamestop.com and saw a 9.99$ charger for ps3 controller and i didnt even know you needed to charge a ps3 controller

No, you don't need to spend $10 on a controller charger. The usb charge cable charges it from any powered usb port. You can charge it from your ps3, or your pc, or even your ps2. Anything that it can draw power from.



If they make a "ps3 controller charger" then somebody must actually be buying them, proving PT Barnum was right that "there's a sucker born every minute."

Those things are a waste of money, just like the cooling units they sell. Cooling units are for people who don't keep their PS3 in a properly ventilated area and charges are for people who...um, I'm not sure who really needs one of those. Invest in another controller and keep one plugged in while you use the other one. Then just swap them out every time you use your machine. Or if you only have one controller and really don't want to buy another one, first of all, get out and get some friends, but otherwise just buy a longer USB cable so you can play and charge at the same time.

How the hell will the thing work if you don't charge it? The PS3 controller unlike the 360 one has a chargeable battery. When you connect the controller via USB to the PS3, the thing charges. On a full charge, the thing will last around 30 hours(fully wireless). The chargers available are external chargers. They take power from the outlet and charge the remote via mini USB.

u need to charge the controllers duh but when u buy ur ps3 there should be a usb cable in the pack and u plug it into the ps3 system and then smaller end into the ps3 controller to charge oor pair it

You can use any USB to mini-USB connector
