There are strong rumors of a price drop occurring within the next month or 2, so you may want to wait a bit longer.
Should you buy one? That depends... If you're interested in some games, and watching Blu-ray movies then get the PS3.
If you're only interested in playing games, then a 360 Pro may be a better buy since it's cheaper, has the same graphics, plays most of the same games, but has a larger and better (IMHO) library of exclusive games.
I replaced my 40Gb hard drive with a 320Gb one.
It's pretty easy to change them over, just make sure you get the right type (needs to be SATA, 2.5 inch)
It is more expensive than the 360 though, so if you don't care about being able to play blu rays you should maybe just get a 360 unless the ps3 exclusive games tempt you... PS3 also has the ability to install linux, so if you buy a cheap USB keyboard and mouse it can basically be used as a high definition PC on your TV while you're not playing games.

I got my ps3 for £100 in a closing down sale, and £800 worth of games and blu rays for £60 - otherwise I doubt I would have spent the money on it. The new hard drive cost me about £40. I don't know what the US prices are like.
and if you are going to get a used one i would get the 60 gb one
if you are planning on getting a new one get the 80 GB which is $399.99
60gbs they don't sell them any more either.
80gbs core it costs $400
