When upgrading the harddrive on a playstation 3 how big can i go?

May be...
  • okay, so i bought a new 80gb sony playstation 3 and am ready to upgrade my harddrive, wich they let you do unlike the 360.

i know what style and kind to get, my question is, how large can i go in disc space? ive seen a lot of people stop at 320 or so. but i have also seen many 500gb people. so how large CAN i go, and how large SHOULD i go?
  • 500GB for now is the biggest available in a 2.5 SATA. You might as well get a 500 spend the little extra cash. Because you don't know what's in store for the ps3 and the way technology goes I'm sure sony will roll out with bigger programs and games that will need larger installations so its better to have and never need then to need and not have.

I'm sure at some point there will be bigger harddrives available but right now 500 is the limit. With that amount of space you could download tons of movies from the psn store and never have to mess with dvds again just turn on your ps3 and play your movie. You could do the same with music and pictures too.
  • people put up to 1tb on theres but it 3.5 size its to big to fit in the ps3. so they connect with it outside. but for the one to fit the ps3 2.5 size the max i think is 500. http://media.photobucket.com/image/3.5%2...
  • I hear 500 GB is the biggest available.

Go as large as you can afford. Anything past 160 GB will take you years to fill up.
  • 1000GB just make sure its a 2.5" hard drive and has 5400RPM
