Does the PS3 have any known failure problems similar to the 360's 'Red Rings of Death?'?

May be...
  • Just bought a brand new PS3! We love it, especially Little Big Planet. We have not had any problems with it (I thought we did at first, but it was a configuration problem in our Yamaha receiver). Just curious.
  • Yes and No. There has been the known YLOD, but that happens far less frequently than the RROD on XBOX. PS3 does have an issue and its with disc read error, you will be playing a game and all of the sudden something will happen and it won't read games anymore. It happened to me and I wrote about it on my site. Check it out, like I said it has happened more than a lot of people think, but I still don't think its as extreme as the RROD.

  • PS3 isn't as prone to failure as the 360. The PS3 uses a yellow and blinking red light to indicate hardware problems as well as overheating warnings. The PS3 won't overheat easily as long as you do the typical PS3 maintenance. The Blu-Ray lens may fail overtime, but this seems to happen after a few years and its mostly the first PS3 models that had this issue so far.
  • Something as serious as RROD.... No. There is this 'YLOD'.. but it's just hard drive failure... The Ps3 has a 1-2% failure rate which is way better than the 33% failure rate of 360.. Now a new problem known as E74 has arisen for the 360... PS3 is way better in terms of reliability..

Sony being a hardware company creates a superior design for PS3 with more fans and better ventilation...
  • its the yellow light of death. Unlike the 360 which gets the red ring by overheating the yellow light is gotten by using it too much and having the blu-ray drive fail
  • Yes, i think it has a yellow blink of death or a red blink of death. check it out on youtube.
  • yes the yellow light of death (YLOD) but it is very rare to get

you dont get as easy as the red rings
