Upgrading PS3. What data will i lose?

May be...
  • Upgrading my PS3 HDD. I do not have an external drive to back up data first. I have a flash drive for my game saves and assume i will just have to install individual game data from the game disk. I believe downloads can be downloaded a number of times but will i have to set up my PSN account again or is this stored on Sony's servers?
  • No you wouldn't have to make another account.

PSN account is saved on sonys server you just have to recover it by signing in through the new HDD, so even if you got a new PS3 you could still use your account and have everything on it.All your downloaded games will be in your downloaded list under

PlayStation Network > Account Managment > Transaction Managment > Downloaded List or go to the PS Store and theres a button you click to view your downloads and just download them again.

The only thing missing would be your save games data, since it won't be on your new hard drive, so go to system settings> Backup Utility> Back up > your save game files to your USB flash drive device, for more information please visit the link for a easy set up to upgrading your PS3 Hard Drive

  • Upgrading? I'm not sure what you mean by "upgrading", you may be confused with UPDATING. In that case, you won't lose anything. But in the case that you are updating your ps3, modifying it, I'd save all your data to a flash drive, and yes, everything you download can be re-downloaded.
  • When you change your Hard-drive disks, you only lose the Demos, videos, and music that was stored in it. However, your account was created through internet connection, therefore it is always there and you can log in to your account on any Ps3 with an internet connection.
  • You will loose everything. It will be like starting fresh. If you have a memory stick (flash drive/USB Stick), then you can copy some of your game saves on to there, then copy them back after.

You can use your current PSN account. Just sign in after you've done the upgrade!

You can download everything you've downloaded again up to 5 times.
  • Try taking it to the Best Buy geek squad. Maybe they can transfer the data while your new hdd is formatted and then they can transfer it back.

    I don't know if it'll work but it's worth a try. It'll cost about $50 if it's possible.
