What is the..................?

May be...
  • What is the difference between PS3 firmware updates 2.70 and 2.76?
  • something to do with better playback of the blue rays. such a small change, they shoula called it 2.71 lol :D
  • Update 2.76 has done nothing except that the playback quality of some PLAYSTATION 3 software has been improved. This means that the software such as the PS3 games and any Blu-Ray movies are now able to run smother and better than before.

The update has just done a little 'magic' and now the Games and Blu-Ray movies play better, they don't like freeze as much and they run faster.

Not much difference to before though.

    Hope this helps!
  • Hello, I just wanted to provide everyone with a head’s up that the next PLAYSTATION 3 system software update (v.2.76) will be coming soon. This is a minor update that improves the playback quality of some PS3 format software.

    @ Gunman

If you want to go online you have to download PS3 updates, you dont have a choice.
  • An update to the PS3 system software was released on May 14, 2009. If you update your PS3 system, the system software version will be 2.76 and the following features will be updated. In order to download PS3 system software version 2.76, you will need a minimum 140Mb of free space on either the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC Update).

Main features in system software update version 2.76

    - The playback quality of some PLAYSTATION 3 software has been improved.

Tha is all that has been added.

You can update the system software by any of the following methods:

System Update - If your PLAYSTATION 3 is online, the most straightforward way to update the system software is using the PS3 system itself. Navigate to Settings on the PS3 Home Menu, select [System Update] and then [Update via Internet] and your PS3 will check if you have the latest version. If not, it will download and install it for you.

PC Update - Visit eu.playstation.com for the very latest version of the update data. Follow the on-screen instructions to download to your PC.

To transfer the update data to your PLAYSTATION 3, save the file to a PS3 compatible storage device such as Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, USB drive or PSP.

Before starting, use your PC to create a folder named 'PS3' on the storage media or USB device. Within the folder, create a folder named 'UPDATE' (This folder name is case sensitive and must appear in all capital letters). Once the UPDATE folder has been created, download the PS3 system software update to this location.

Once the update data has been saved, disconnect the storage device and connect it to your PS3 via the slots under the slot cover or the USB connectors depending on the device you're using.

Once connected, navigate to Settings on the PS3 Home Menu, select [System Update] and then [Update via Storage Media]. Select the connected device and your PS3 will install the update data stored there.
