Are they lowering the price of the PS3?

May be...

I heard there's a rumor going around that they will in august. is it true? I'm saving up for one, and i might just wait if the rumors are true.

Activision recently threatened sony to lower the price of the PS3 or else they would stop publishing games on the PS3. Sony replied, that it was a bluff and they are not going to lower the price any time soon. Sony Japan though, said they will be dropping the price soon because in Japan kids are really busy and only have time to play during the summer. In best buy USA, the PS3s did not get a price drop but did receive a bundle for $400 featuring, 80GB PS3 (the same one as when it was $400 by it self) and 2 games, killzone 2 and metal gear solid 4

Price drops are all rumors know. What isn't is that Sony is already producing a slimmer version of the PS3 that will be a bit cheaper to make. Word is that Sony is waiting until the fatty PS3's stock gets low then they will introduce the slimmer PS3 at a cheaper price. This is said to occur in the fall.

i would not hold my breath. the system is already reasonably priced, given all you recieve for your money. plus the fact that sony already looses a large quantity of moolah just selling the system at it's current sales price.

No way. The PS3 is already at a great price. $399 and in many stores that comes with a game and a Blu Ray movie. And also, Sony is losing alot of money right now.

I think activision said they will drop ps3 unless they lower the price of it

I would say wait till the holiday season, if they don't release a price drop by then they probably wont till late next year.
