Playstation 3 Games HD?

May be...
  • I have several PS3 games, all the support the various types of HD output. What makes one game play in 1080 while another will only play in 720?
  • The resolution on the back of the box is the resolution that the game was optimized for though it can be scaled to other resolutions. For some people, the resolution that the game was optimized for is the resolution that is displayed. Try manually setting the resolution according to your display. I play at 720p and it is always 720p, never 1080i.

This "bug" only occurs on 720p and 1080i displays. For 1080i, it will sometimes display 480p.
  • Maybe not all games are 1080 capable or maybe your settings are off a bit on your PS3 !
  • it's all in how the developers make the game. most people will not be able to see the difference in 720p compared to 1080i or 1080p. as long as your display settings are correct your games will look great regardless of what resolution the game supports.
  • It's just how the game is formatted. Nothing more. If you browse through the games at the store you'll see that they are all formated differently.

Don't think about it too much. Enjoy your PS3. It's an awesome system.
  • it really depends on the game itself. Some games don't support 1080i due to the fact about the level of detail and how many pixels are really in a moving image in your game.
