PS2 can't find memory card?

May be...
  • So, we've had our PS2 for years now, and we've only ever used the one memory card. It started to get full up recently, and now the PS2 can't detect the memory card anymore, meaning no saved games can be loaded, and no more can be saved - there's nothing wrong with the memory card slots, because we tested a PS1 memory card with a PS1 game and it loaded and saved games healthily.

    Any way to fix it?
  • I have had problems with Sony brand memory cards too. A problem I had with the original system memory card was where there were a few hairs in there. I don't know how they got in there, but once I got the hair removed, the memory card worked as good as new with all of the old memory intact.

If you can see anything in your PS2 memory card that doesn't look like it should be there, you should remove it.

Another reason for this malfunction could be that the card has used up its internal battery. The battery is what powers the memory card to hold memory. Without any power, the card won't work at all. It won't even be detected, like the problem you are having. If that's the case, you could call Sony or the manufacturer of the card. They should be able to fix the card. Even if they fix it and that was the problem, you won't get any of the old game memory back.

That was a big problem with the off brand Sony Playstation 1 memory cards, that the cards had very little battery power. When it happened to me, I was so upset.

I hope you find the light through your problem.

P.S. If all else fails, call the company or buy a new memory card.
  • It has to be broken. Did you get an official Sony mem card or like a madkatz card?
  • the card is defective. you'll have to get another one. sorry.
  • if you have a cheap knockoff one eventually they get defected you have to buy the official sony memory card...
