GTA4 question-can you go to bars at the beging of the game?

If you mean getting drunk, you can only go with a friend (Roman at the time) and then you'll be getting arrested for drunk driving.

there's a mission where you visit a bar with some guy you kill later on in the game....but bottom line i think you need someone to go with you

if you can find 1 you can go in it lol
