How to fix the screen size on the ps3 when playing a regular dvd?

I have a 32 inch samsung HDTV and when I play a regular dvd on the ps3 the right and left sides are cut off and appear black what should i do? is it just the screen size of the tv? should i hook it up to my 50 inch instead?

Check your TV settings, some support a 4.3 or a 16.9 aspect ratio
