What is the difference between the two types of ps3's?

May be...
  • one is more expensive and i want to know what makes it better than the cheaper one.
  • Babycakes - you got a couple of differences, although there are more.

    1. 40GB does not have backwards compatibility. 80GB can play about 80% of PS2 games.

    2. 40GB has 2 USB ports - 80GB has 4

    3. 40GB does not have any Flash Card Readers - 80GB does.

    4. 40GB Does not have Chrome trim - 80GB does.

    5. 40GB does not support SACD (Super Audio CD) - 80GB does.

    6. 40GB HDD space - 80GB HDD space.

    7. 40GB comes with Spiderman BRDVD - 80GB Comes with MGS4 (game)

    Those are the differences.

    EDIT - I agree Born - I have the 60GB also.
  • It has a bigger Hard Drive, Backwards Compatibility, Multimedia Slots. I dont think its possible to buy anymore though, Sorry.

There is an 80gb available in some places which the only difference is HDD size.
  • the 40gb cant play ps2 games and has no flash card readers and has only 2 usb ports. the 80gb can play ps2 games has flash card readers and has 4 usb ports. and the 80gb comes with metal gear solid 4
  • The best way to explain is using this table:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS3#Retail_...

Thre are actually 5 different SKUs.
  • im glad i have the 60gb wich has everything
  • One is a 40g and one is 80g so one simply holds/has mor internal memory than the other, which causes the price difference. Everything else is the same, games, controllers, quality, etc...
