I cannot play my ps2 game on my ps3?

May be...
  • it says disc cannot be played due to region restriction. what do i have to do? i read the manual and it says there that updating the version could help but i don know where or how. please help me. 10 points for the best answer. give me a link if there is.

i don't have direct internet connection on my ps3
  • If it is the new 80 gb PS3 that costs $399.99, then you can't play ANY ps2 games on it at all. So if you have that model, that may be a reason.

If you have the more expensive model, that came with Metal Gear Solid 4, then you should make sure that your game is backwards compatible with Playstation's website, since not ALL PS2 games can be played on that PS3.

With all that aside, the game you purchased, was probably manufactured for a different part of the world. Maybe it was manufactured for Japan, and sold there, but someone ended up in the US. The PS3's in the US will not be able to play games from Japan, because of that region lock.
  • The thing about PS3 is that only PS3 games are 99,9% region free, but PS1/2 games and movies are region locked. There is nothing to do with that.
  • the ps3 you using is not compatable for 1 reason the disc is formatted in another country region
  • you have tried to play a ps2 game which isnt the same region as ur ps3. you cannot play it on ur ps3.
  • I thought they discontinued that, thought it was only on the old 60's
  • only 60gb PS3 can use PS2 games
