Assasins Creed on my PS3 is freezing up, why?

I just bought a *used playstation 3, and I only (so far) one game which is Assasins Creed. The game has frozen on me just about everytime I've played it so far. (I've heard that alot of people who play that on their ps3 have freezing problems-and that it's the game). My problem is...I just bought this used ps3 and I don't no if it's the game (that's causing the freezing) or the console. Any opinions?

You should try a music cd, dvd or hd movie and see if they atleast work. If you can try another ps3 game. To atleast single out if it is actually the game. If it is not the game, Your laser may be going bad! It does not sound like your system is overheating. If that were the case I believe the red light flashes. Call Sony!

When I bought assasins creed when it first came out, it used to freeze right when im in the middle or at the end of a mission but then there was a game update which downloaded automaticaly and the game never froze again. is ur ps3 updated?
