Can I play RockBand 1 using my wireless Drum Set (all ps2 items)?

We haven't picked up the actual game yet, but would like to buy RockBand V1 and V2. I have seen in a few places that the wireless drumset is non compatible with volume 1. It's going to be an present for my step daughters for Christmas. Anyone know?
