Why arent they making PS3 with backward compatibility?

Because Sony is trying to find ways of reducing the cost of PS3 manufacturing so it can compete with the considerably cheaper Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.

what model did you buy. The cheapest ones do not where as older or more expensive ones do. The money is worth it.
